Confederate Heritage Month!! Camp Elections!! We had a busy night with camp elections, keeping a few of our original officers and bringing in some new ones. The current listing is on the officers page of this site. We had our 2nd annual candle light vigil service to honor our Confederate ancestors. We also welcomed 3 new members to the camp, watched the officer change for the local OCR, and had birthdays to celebrate! It was a fantastic night to be a Rankin Grey!

Phillip, our 3rd Lt Commander ran the meeting this month and did a fantastic job! Brandon Beck was our speaker and spoke about his newest book, Streight's Foiled Raid on the Western & Atlantic Railroad, a story that includes Nathan Bedford Forrest and Emma Sansom. It was an excellent presentation. He also had copies of this book and 2 of his previous books for sale. We also welcomed to the camp 2 new members, Jason and Ronald, and a new associate member, Ricky.
January was a great meeting with our 2nd Lt Commander leading the way. Marty did a fantastic job running the meeting and also giving a presentation on period clothing and weapons of the Confederate military with some assistance from JJ.
These programs work. We have only recently gotten set up on the Kroger programe, but we've been on the Amazon Smile for a while, and with it limited to PC based purchases only (there is no app for Smile), we have managed to raise about $64. While it's not much, it required very little to get it. Everyone buys groceries, many at Kroger, and many people shop on Amazon everyday. Pass the word. Every little bit helps, and to those that have, thank you so much!
The November meeting was fantastic as per usual. We had the Dixie Hummingbirds with us. Murray Stewart and Joe Tubb played guitars and entertained, and Mr. Stewart gave a presentation on the voyage of the CSS Shenandoah. Billy presented our honored veterans with certificates of appreciation for their service for Veterans Day. We also voted in a Ronald Pursley making application for membership, and welcomed Robert Richardson to our ranks.
Initiative 62 is in full swing! Signature collection booths are popping up all over the state. The Greys have been involved with 2 so far. The Jackson Gun Show at the Shriner's Temple and Florence Fest. With several hundred signatures already collected, we want to keep the momentum up to save the state flag!
The Rankin Greys hosted a dunking booth at Fall Muster this year to raise money for Beauvoir. With the turn out reduced a bit due to weather and only running the booth for one day, we managed to end up with three very clean loud mouth members and raise enough to donate $100 to Beauvoir after cost!

Guests included National CIC Tom Strain and his wife, AOT Commander Larry McCluney and his wife, and Mississippi Division Commander Jeff Barnes. Al Arnold was with us telling the story of his ancestor Turner Hall, a black confederate and Robert E. Lee's orderly. He had on hand copies of his first book for sale, and 2 copies of his newest book for review. After his presentation, Commander in Chief Tom Strain spoke and gave us an update on the current state of affairs in the SCV and some monument updates. We welcomed Mike Merritt to the camp as our newest associate member and voted in new camp member Robert Richardson on recommendation of Jeff Ainsworth. We also presented Los Cazadores, our meeting host restaurant with a certificate of appreciation for their continued support of the camp. Right before the meeting started, we got the privilege of checking out the new SCV motorcycle tags that will be available in October. If you have a motorcycle, pick one up and support the Mississippi Division SCV!
