Had a great January meeting. Welcomed Ryan Atkinson into the camp as a new SCV member, and Chris Bryant and Rock Pfingston were promoted to Corporal in the Mechanized Cavalry.

The Greys celebrated their first camp Christmas on Dec 10 with Christmas in Dixie! New members and cadets were inducted, Cherished friends were honored, and we ate homemade desserts and fellowshipped. Confederate Santa stopped by and gave gifts to all the kids. A great time was had by all. Next year will be even better!
The Grey Roses OCR Chapter 24 and the Rankin Greys Camp 2278 at the Beyond the Blue event in Brandon, MS honoring the police officers. All that we could find were presented with thin blue line bracelets. The OCR sold several cookbooks and bracelets and provided the cocoa station for the event attendees.
The Greys had a great day at Briar Hill Nursing Home today. We hosted a game of Bingo, with drawings for the patients to win the prizes of their choice from the many donations we received for the home. After it was all over, the patients were allowed to peruse the remainder of the donations for the items they wanted or needed. It was truly a blessed day.
From the Commander: OUTSTANDING JOB!!! WE HAD 25 PEOPLE SHOW UP TODAY TO HELP WITH OUR BINGO DAY AT BRIAR HILL NURSING HOME.. WE HAD SOMEWHERE AROUND $750.00 WORTH OF TOYS AND PERSONAL ITEM WE GAVE TO THE PATIENTS. I COULD NOT BE PROUDER OF OUR CAMP AND OUR VOLUNTEERS. THANK YOU ALL, I LOVE YOU ALL. "ANSWER THE CALL" The Greys had a productive meeting on Nov. 12 following the chartering ceremony of the newest MS chapter of the Order of Confederate Rose, #24, the Grey Roses.
Bridget Smith spoke on her new book "Where Elephants Fought" detailing the story around the murder of General Earl Van Dorn. Conor Bond presented a Hardee Flag to the camp. Bruce Warren gave a short update on his camp's upcoming activities and promoted his run for 4th Brigade Councilman. Landon Peckinpaugh received his certificate for full membership to the SCV. Jamie Peckinpaugh has discovered a new old cemetery in Collins close to his home that contain a number of Confederate graves. Remember the upcoming Nursing Home Bingo at Briar Hill Nursing home on December 3. We are still looking for cash and item donations for the residents there. OCR is involved in the Blue Christmas event in Brandon on December 10 with a hot chocolate station. Please support them! |
